Executed in 2012, the middle of Rossi’s artistic career, “Twice the fun when you are having sailing fun” is a work in which the artist explores the varying effects of light and geometric shapes of the theory of cubism. With a restricted palette, and wonderfully atmospheric economy of means, a sailing catamaran ship is depicted against a horizon, punctuated by the twinkling of distant lights, in the morning of a beautiful day. Yet, there is a hint of cubism in the image. The influence of Picasso’s cubism has been clearly absorbed, and yet the style remains distinctively her own.
